5th Chinley Fete (2010)

The Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside Community Association are holding the 5th annual Summer Fete on Saturday 17th July from 11am to 4pm on Chinley Playing Fields, Lower Lane.

It’s a great day out for all the family, with games, rides and hopefully a chance to soak up the sun. There will be cake stalls, a beer tent, parachute games, BBQ, fair rides, magician and balloon modelling, plant stall, Body Shop, Gifts and Cards, face-painting, tombolas, bric-a-brac, craft stalls, and a bottle stall. Kinder Mountain Rescue will be there, there’ll be music to while away the day to, and much, much more! Everyone’s welcome.

A highlight of the fete is the Tracks to the Trig fell race- in it’s second year- short, sharp and fun. Will you manage to conquer the Chinley Wall? Unique in the fell running calendar, it’s uphill only and run as a time trial with runners set off at regular intervals. There is a prize for the runner nearest to their estimated time (no watches allowed!). So, even if you walk the whole thing you can still “win”. Prizes also for three fastest men and women. To register, email nikalascook@googlemail.com

The proceeds from this year’s fete are going towards the cost of resurfacing of the sports court in Chinley, which is in a poor state of repair, but is a great facility for the whole community. The Netball Club, Football Club, and other users of the court are getting behind the campaign and helping to raise funds by running stalls and other events later in the year.

If you’d like to run a stall, places cost just £10 if you are taking the proceeds or are free for information stands and those contributing to the Sports Court Campaign. Call Hayley Lever on 01663 751521.

Community Association Chair, Mark Connolly, said: “we look forward to the fete each year, as a celebration of village life, and a good chance for the community to come together for a social afternoon out”. We welcome people from our own villages but also visitors from far and wide.”
