Chinley Netball Club started in May 2007 and aims to provide local people with a fun way to keep fit and enjoy a team sport. The sessions are coached by Jackie Pettitt from the village, who is a qualified coach and umpire. She tends to spend the first half of the evening helping us to improve our varying skills on the court, then we run ourselves ragged in games for the rest of the time. We switch positions and teams, so everyone gets a chance to play in a position that they prefer at some point.
The club is friendly and open to anyone regardless of ability. We have people who haven’t played since school, and others who perhaps used to play in teams and are keen to get back into it.
Sessions are on Wednesday evenings from 7.15 – 8.30pm. They cost £2, proceeds of which go to hire the court, and contribute to the continual development of the centre via the Community Association. Jackie coaches as a volunteer, for which we are very grateful. Chinley Buxworth and Brownside Community Association have provided the equipment, re lined the court, and bought new balls and bibs for us.
